Officially called “moderate sedation,” this uses strong pain and anti-anxiety medications administered through an IV. You aren’t completely asleep for this, but it makes you feel calm, sleepy, and helps reduce pain.

You will need someone to drive you to and from the clinic.
Pain and Anxiety Pills
These are two strong pills (anti-anxiety and pain pills) that you take two hours prior to your procedure. You won’t be totally asleep and it isn’t as stong as IV medication.

IV Ketamine
Ketamine is a strong medicine given through an IV. Ketamine is a dissociative medication, which means it helps your mind go somewhere else during the procedure.

You will need someone to drive you to and from the clinic.
Nitrous Gas
This is a medication that you inhale in through your mouth—just like you may have used at the dentist. It helps reduce pain and anxiety for the procedure.
This medication is not covered by insurance and is $80 out of pocket.
You are able to safely drive to and from your appointment. You do not need a driver.
Local Numbing
Local numbing uses lidocaine, a numbing medicine. This can be given as an injection on the cervix, an injection at the site of the nerves going to the uterus, or as a gel put on the cervix.
This is covered by insurance.
Because this is a local medicine and doesn’t affect your whole body, you are able to drive yourself to and from clinic.
